Starting from Kalapana, these private tours allows visitors the rare opportunity to hike along the cliffs bordering the Pacific Ocean, and view the lava currently flowing from the Pu`u O`o vent. As this is a guided tour, you will be provided with historical information about the old village of Kalapana, traditional Native Hawaiian history about Pele and her sisters and information about the surrounding plant-life.

The entire hike takes a total of three hours, and includes trekking across old and recently developed lava flats, two steep hills, and is guided along a cliffs edge, in the dark with flashlights (for best possible lava viewing). This trail is recommended for experienced hikers only, who are in good physical condition. We also recommend that our customers do not have a fear of heights, problem walking at night, or following in a single line. For your complete safety we require that you must be 18 years of age or older and are outfitted with hiking boots, or jogging shoes, long pants, and a jacket. We will provide customers with flashlights and bottled water however you are more than welcome to bring your own.

The cost of the tour is $50.00 per person and is NON-REFUNDABLE. We offer one daily tour four days a week (as displayed below). If you would like to continue to book a tour please Contact Us.
